Be willing to show up and do the work regardless of the fleeting feelings of the day.
There may be days that you just don't feel like doing anything and although it is important to honor your needs and rest when required, be keen to witness when you are leaning into resistance and avoidance.
There are many excuses that come to mind when I find myself in a mood of "I don't feel like it".. given the 5 second rule as described by the amazing Mel Robbins:
"The 5 Second Rule is simple. If you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it.
The moment you feel an instinct or a desire to act on a goal or a commitment, use the Rule. When you feel yourself hesitate before doing something that you know you should do, count 5-4-3-2-1-GO and move towards action.
There is a window that exists between the moment you have an instinct to change and your mind killing it. It’s a 5 second window. And it exists for everyone. If you do not take action on your instinct to change, you will stay stagnant. You will not change.
But if you do one simple thing, you can prevent your mind from working against you. You can start the momentum before the barrage of thoughts and excuses hit you at full force." - Read more on the 5 second rule here: https://melrobbins.com/blog/five-elements-5-second-rule/.
Our emotions are fleeting and tend to shift moments after we choose to take action... so why not just show up and do the damn thing regardless of how you may be feeling in the moment?
There are countless reasons that may come to mind that tell you why not to take action... "its hard, no one cares anyway, what is the point? etc". All stories of course. Stories that keep playing over and over in your mind .. frozen in time.. and inaction.
Sounds like a boring and rather fruitless existence doesn't it? Where you only LIVE when you feel like it. Wait? You don't "feel" like LIVING? Now I am confused.
Does that make any sense? Have you chosen a life in which you simply respond to fleeting feelings that happen to just be passing through?
What I found to be helpful is clarity. Getting clear on my WHY. Why am I showing up? Why is it important to/for me to show up? Why did I start doing this work?
What is the impact I desire to have in and on the world? Is what I am choosing this moment serving my goal?
The key is deciding that you get to do, be, and have more... and being willing to show up and do the work.. take inspired action. There is only so much you can create for yourself from a mindset stand point before you are required to take action.
Yes, a bulk of the work you do is focused on looking within, reframing and shifting your mindset, and getting clear on what you get to have, be, create for yourself. A great deal of the heavy lifting is done here.
Check in today.. ask "where have I been ignoring the pull to act?" See what comes up and take action. Remember the 5 second rule.. and just show up.. just do it.
Results come from our choosing to take action regardless of our reasons.
Be the gentle observer of your thoughts.. of all your reasons not to do the thing, take the action, show up today.. witness them as as they float up into your mind and choose to take action anyway... today and everyday.
